OpenStack is a free and open-source software platform for cloud computing, mostly deployed as infrastructure-as-a-service, whereby virtual servers and other resources are made available to customers. OpenStack software controls large pools of compute, storage, and networking resources throughout a datacenter, managed through a a dashboard or through it's powerful API.
Though being famous openstack is not the only opensource software patform for cloud computing, there are some other cloud computing platform out there that are owned by large opensource organization and that are thriving to compete with openstack.
Alternative to Openstack
- Apache CloudStack Apache CloudStack is open source software designed to deploy and manage large networks of virtual machines, as a highly available, highly scalable Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud computing platform. CloudStack is used by a number of service providers to offer public cloud services, and by many companies to provide an on-premises (private) cloud offering, or as part of a hybrid cloud solution.
In the opensource world Apache cloudstack is the only real alternative to openstack that has almost the same component and purpose in mind.
